After presenting her with a splendid gift from our Mother's Day gift selection, what mum wouldn't then be overjoyed at the prospect of breakfast in bed on Mothering Sunday? :-) We thought we'd find some perfect breakfast recipes that will help you treat that perfect mum to a perfect breakfast in bed.

Perfect Scrambled Eggs

In Felicity Cloake's blog article on The Guardian website, Felicity tries the best suggested methods for making scrambled eggs by top chefs, including Delia Smith and Gordon Ramsay. And what did she conclude? Well, Gordon got his way (doesn't he always) but not without some help from a few fine tunings to the recipe (salt during the cooking process, not after, for example) and most importantly, a healthy dollop of crème fraîche.

Perfect Porridge

A great warmer on those chillier mornings, and one of the most comforting morning-time foods; porridge is another perfect treat for Mother's Day. This recipe from The English Kitchen blog makes a truly indulgent porridge, and features golden syrup, cinnamon, nutmeg, single cream, sultanas, and quite a bit of 'mmmmm'. Just what every yummy mummy wants on Mother's Day, and a great source of fibre too.

  • 1 1/2 pints of whole milk
  • 8 ounces porridge oats
  • 1 TBS golden syrup

  • 1/2 cup sultana raisins
  • Brown sugar to serve and additional milk or cream

Perfect Pancakes

This may be a simple recipe from the BBC Good Food website, but it's a classic and some things are best left that way. It manages to be just right for both savoury and sweet pancakes – perfect for an alternative breakfast treat. Why not try sweet favourites such as chocolate topped with banana, or for a savoury option, add some bacon, mushrooms and even cheese – appetite depending. Either way, pancakes are a great opportunity for spelling out a special 'Mummy' message with the toppings. Give it a try!

Perfect Pancakes

You will need:

  • 100g plain flour
  • 2 eggs
  • 300ml semi-skimmed milk
  • 1 tbsp sunflower oil or vegetable, plus extra for frying
  • pinch salt

Perfect Hot Chocolate

A delicious accompaniment to the perfect breakfast – a sweet and uplifting hot chocolate always goes down well on a Sunday morning. This recipe from Mr Jamie Oliver's website can be made using either full cream milk or semi-skimmed (diet depending) and is all about the simmer (not boil!). A handful of marshmallows are optional, but if Mothering Sunday isn't a day when it's well worth sprucing-up a hot drink with something sweet and fluffy, then when would be?

Perfect Hot Chocolate

You will need:

• 565ml full cream or semi-skimmed milk
• 2 tablespoons good-quality drinking chocolate
• 1 handful of marshmallows
• sugar, to taste
